Call for Executive Member Expressions of Interest (Headteacher, Scotland)
The Association for the Study of Primary Education (ASPE) is inviting applications for a new Executive Board Member to join our leadership team. We are specifically seeking a serving or recently retired Headteacher from Scotland who is passionate about advancing primary education and committed to strengthening the voice of Scottish schools within our UK-wide community.
About ASPE
ASPE is a registered charity dedicated to promoting research, innovation and professional practice in primary education. We bring together practitioners, researchers, academics and organisations to share knowledge and strengthen the impact of primary education across all four nations of the UK.
Role of the Executive Board
The Executive Board provides strategic direction, governance and oversight of ASPE’s activities. Board members contribute their expertise to ensure the charity operates effectively, transparently and in line with its constitution and values. This is a voluntary role, with expenses reimbursed by prior agreement.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from Headteachers in Scotland who can bring:
- First-hand leadership experience in primary education.
- Insight into Scottish educational policy and practice, ensuring ASPE’s work reflects the distinct context of Scotland.
- A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ethical practice.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with fellow trustees and committee members.
Responsibilities
- Attend Executive Board meetings (normally held quarterly, with additional subcommittee work as required).
- Provide advice and guidance on governance and leadership matters to strengthen ASPE’s structures and sustainability.
- Contribute to strategic planning and oversight of ASPE’s programmes, publications and events.
- Act as an ambassador for ASPE, promoting its values and engaging with members and stakeholders across Scotland and the wider UK.
Terms
This is a voluntary trustee role with expenses reimbursed. Appointments are subject to approval by the Executive Committee and compliance with charity trustee requirements.
