ASPE is a registered charity dedicated to promoting research, innovation and professional practice in primary education. We bring together practitioners, researchers, academics and organisations to share knowledge and strengthen the impact of primary education across all four nations of the UK.

The Executive Board provides strategic direction, governance and oversight of ASPE’s activities. Board members contribute their expertise to ensure the charity operates effectively, transparently and in line with its constitution and values. This is a voluntary role, with expenses reimbursed by prior agreement.

We welcome applications from Headteachers in Scotland who can bring:

  • First-hand leadership experience in primary education.
  • Insight into Scottish educational policy and practice, ensuring ASPE’s work reflects the distinct context of Scotland.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ethical practice.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with fellow trustees and committee members.
  • Attend Executive Board meetings (normally held quarterly, with additional subcommittee work as required).
  • Provide advice and guidance on governance and leadership matters to strengthen ASPE’s structures and sustainability.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and oversight of ASPE’s programmes, publications and events.
  • Act as an ambassador for ASPE, promoting its values and engaging with members and stakeholders across Scotland and the wider UK.

This is a voluntary trustee role with expenses reimbursed. Appointments are subject to approval by the Executive Committee and compliance with charity trustee requirements.

Please contact Professor Gary Beauchamp (National Chair, [email protected]) or Dr. Matthew Williamson-Dicken (National Vice Chair, [email protected]) for more information.
