Call for Executive Member Expressions of Interest
The Association for the Study of Primary Education (ASPE) is inviting applications for a new Executive Board Member to join our leadership team. We are seeking an individual with strong governance expertise and a genuine interest in advancing primary education across the United Kingdom.
About ASPE
ASPE is a registered charity dedicated to promoting research, innovation and professional practice in primary education. We bring together practitioners, researchers, academics and organisations to share knowledge and strengthen the impact of primary education in all four nations of the UK.
Role of the Executive Board
The Executive Board provides strategic direction, governance and oversight of ASPE’s activities. Board members contribute their expertise to ensure the charity operates effectively, transparently and in line with its constitution and values. This is a voluntary role, with expenses reimbursed by prior agreement.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals who can bring:
- Professional expertise in governance, ideally with experience in charity boards, non-profit organisations or educational institutions.
- A commitment to safeguarding and ethical practice.
- An interest in primary education and a desire to support ASPE’s mission.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with fellow trustees and committee members.
Responsibilities
- Attend Executive Board meetings (normally held quarterly with a hybrid format, with additional subcommittee work as required).
- Provide advice and guidance on governance matters to strengthen ASPE’s structures and sustainability.
- Contribute to strategic planning and oversight of ASPE’s programmes, publications and events.
- Act as an ambassador for ASPE, promoting its values and engaging with members and stakeholders.
Terms
This is a voluntary trustee role with expenses reimbursed, and appointments are subject to approval by the Executive Committee in line with charity trustee requirements. The expected time commitment is approximately six to eight hours per month, which includes attending meetings and undertaking the necessary preparation.
